Miguel del Valle, Commissioner
Miguel del Valle was appointed by Governor Pat Quinn Feb. 8 to a five year term on the
Illinois Commerce Commission. He previously served as the City Clerk of Chicago and was the
first Hispanic elected to the Illinois State Senate, where he served for 20 years, including terms as
co-chairman of the Latino Caucus and chairman of the Senate Education Committee.
He is the co-founder of the Illinois Association of Hispanic State Employees and the Illinois Latino
Advisory Council on Higher Education. He also serves as vice chairman of the Illinois Student
Assistance Commission and as chairman of Illinois P-20 Council, an organization aimed at improving
educational opportunities for students. Prior to holding elected office, he worked with several
community-based agencies including the Union League Foundation for Boys and Girls Clubs and Association House, a human service agency in Chicago. He earned a master’s degree in guidance and counseling from Northeastern Illinois University in Chicago.
