Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC)
The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) regulates, among other things, the rates for wholesale electricity sales by public utilities and transmission in interstate commerce, the sale or resale of natural gas by interstate pipelines, and the transportation of natural gas by interstate pipelines. The primary goal of the ICC's Federal Energy Program is to ensure that the rules, policies, rates, and terms and conditions of service that FERC establishes are fair and resonable for Illinois energy consumers. To accomplish this goal, the Federal Energy Program monitors FERC cases, makes policy recommendations to the ICC, and prepares written materials for the ICC to consider sending to FERC.
