I definitely do not want any rate increases.

Our membership is employed by Peoples Gas and works on its Accelerated Main Replacement Program (the “AMRP”). Nearly 1,000 of our members are employed by Peoples Gas and North Shore Gas, and so we take seriously any issues that may affect the stability of those companies and the men and women they employ.
In Peoples Gas’ last rate case in 2009, we intervened and voiced our support for Peoples Gas’ AMRP and the rider that would help ensure that Peoples Gas could implement it.
As the people who work directly on and with Peoples Gas’ distribution system, we know the importance of AMRP to enhancing the safety of the system generally and for our workers specifically. As promised, the AMRP has created many new jobs, with, we believe, more to come. You agreed with these points, and unanimously voted to approve Rider ICR to support the AMRP.

    Sincerely,

    Richard Passarelli

This is yet another example of corporations trying to gouge the average person. When does it end? The rate hike request should be rejected. Peoples Gas profits keep going up, up, up. They do not require a rate hike. Why don't they cut executive compensation if so desperate for funds?!

I wish the corporations of America would start to exercise some patriotism. All numbers show that People's Gas does NOT need more income. They are profiting handsomely. Citizens are suffering. We are expected to be patriotic, to sacrifice, but corporations are not. That's not democracy. I want democracy back.

Peoples gas should not get a rate hike. Increasing customer charge for residential customers is extremely unfair to to residential users who are trying to conserve energy to slow down global warming and also save resources. In fact, there should be a discount for those who keep their use under a certain amount and an extra charge for excessive use. That would make sense to preserve natural resources.

I want to call to oppose any increase proposed by People's Energy. Most people, especailly on fixed incomes cannot afford it. CEO makes enough and PG needs to use assets to provide better service with the money they have. I vote a definite "no". THey have enough money to upgrade infrastructure with the cash they have on hand. No one else can get by with rate increases like what utilities get by with. Can you imagine going to the grocery store and every time you go, the prices are increased dramatically over the last time? This needs to stop.
  • November 4, 2011

I think the proposal for the hike in monthly service charges is unreasonable, excessive and it has nothing to do with the volume of consuption being used at the homes. I think that the existing monthly fee should stay at the current rate.
  • November 1, 2011

As a customer of People's Gas, I do not believe they are entitled to a rate increase. Evidence indicates that they have already received sufficient funding to run the utility and provide gas service. An increase in rates would only allow for larger profits to the corporation rather than better service to consumers.

PLEASE DO NOT ALLOW A PEOPLES GAS INCREASE IN THE RATES.
LET THIS COMPANY CUT SOME OF THEIR EXPENSES.
LET THIS COMPANY COME UP WITH SOME INITATIVE TO SAVE MONEY.
IN MY AREA THE COMPANY WAS MOVING THE GAS METERS OUTSIDE--ONLY BECAUSE SOME HOMES HAD BEEN EXPLODING A FEW YEARS AGO. BUT THE COMPANY STOPPED. WOULD IT NOT BE BETTER IF THEY PUT METER OUTSIDE AND PUT READERS ON THEM THAT COULD BE SCANNED ON A DRIVE BY. OR EVEN BETTER MAYBE THE METERS COULD BE READ IN SOME OTHER MODERN TECHNOLOGY. INSTEAD OF HAVING THE METERS READ BY PEOPLE WALKING THE STREETS.
COMPANY SHOULD REDUCE THEIR GOLDEN PARRACHUTE PAYMENTS FOR PEOPLE LEAVING THE COMPANY.

I truly believe that over the years of high gas prices, that Peoples Gas has enough profit money to pay for any and all improvements the company may need without putting another big hit on my pocketbook. The public is suffering during this time so how about giving us a break. We have supported Peoples Gas by paying our outrages bills, now let Peoples Gas help us by spending some of the money they already have and not "taxing" us any more. I think we have built up enough equity in this compay for a little pay back time.

My Peoples Gas bill has been creeping up year after year. Although it is only for my stove(which I don't even use that often), it now costs me almost $58 every 2 months. enough is enough. My electric bill, for electricity which I use every day, costs far less - about $60 per month, but I use electricity daily all day and all evening. I only use my gas stove for about 5 minutes in the morning to boil water for coffee and about 1 hour 3 evenings per week to cook dinner, but I am still paying almost $58 per month.
In addition, Peoples Gas recently took it on themselves to "upgrade" the gas in my neighborhood. This resulted in my having to buy a $35 regulator for my stove plus pay $70 to have someone install it, not to mention the inconvenience of being without a stove a stove as a result of this, until the regulator was installed. In addition, they did not warn people ahead of time that they might need a regulator, so when Peoples Gas finished its work on a Friday afternoon at 5:30 pm and came by to turn the gas on again, we learned for the first time that we could not turn on our gas without a regulator (you would think that they must have had this experience before and could have warned us so we could be prepared). That left us without gas for the entire weekend. Imagine, if I had been planning to have company that night! As it was, I had bought fresh fish that day, which I had to freeze. (If I wanted frozen fish, I would have bought that instead, since it is cheaper.)

"No!" to the ridiculous proposed People's Gas rate hike. During a weak economy with way too many fellow Illinoisans out of work, this rate hike is callous and inappropriate. A 45% rate hike is unacceptable at any time but especially now when so many are struggling to pay their bills.

I strongly urge you to reject People's Gas requested rate hike. It's flat out wrong.

Thank you for considering my comment.

  • October 18, 2011

I AM VERY MUCH OPPOSED TO THE PROPOSED RATE INCREASE FOR PEOPLES GAS. PEOPLES HAS RECEIVED MORE THAN ENOUGH OF AN INCREASE IN THE LAST FOUR YEARS. WITH THE CURRENT ECONOMIC CONDITIONS THE REQUESTED INCREASE IS ESPECIALLY UNREASONABLE. I AM A RETIREE RECEIVING NO COST OF LIVING INCREASES AND CANNOT AFFORD THE ADDITIONAL MONTHLY COST FOR GAS SERVICE. THE INCREASE IS ALSO UNFAIR IN LIGHT OF THE STEPS WE HAVE TAKEN TO CONSERVE ENERGY. WE HAVE HAD TRIPLE-PANE WINDOWS INSTALLED, AS WELL AS A NEW, EFFICIENT FURNACE. WE KEEP THE THERMOSTAT AT SIXTY-FOUR DEGREES AND WEAR EXTRA CLOTHES WHEN COLD.

Please say no to this natural gas hike!

I just received a peoples gas bill that charged an effective cost of $6.20 per therm because of their already high fees. I used 4.03 therms for a true cost of $2.24, but my bill was for $25.00 after all of their fees. I paid 9 times my gas usage cost in fees this month. If People's Gas can't make up money, change the business model to increase the charge per therm for the gas. That way people pay for what they use. The system you have in place now doesn't appropriately allocate costs.

Now is not the time for allowing the utilities to lock in profits on the backs of the unemployed and under-employed. People are struggling to make ends meet and this proposal would significantly increase charges heading into winter, when people need access to gas (heat) the most. Additionally, for all of the State's, City's, and Utility's lip service in promoting conservation of resources, this increase will affect all customers equally regardless of consumption. This is hypocritical and unfair.
