I am strongly opposed to the use of eminent domain to allow Enbridge, Inc. or any other transport company to construct a pipeline through Illinois. Enbridge's eminent domain petition should be rejected. This company has a poor safety record with its pipelines in Wisconsin and Minnesota including environmental violations, spills, and accidents. Refining tar sand oil is highly polluting and does irreparable damage to the environment. Farmers in the area are overwhelming opposed to this use of their private property. This would be an improper use of eminent domain and one that would reduce our liberties rather than increase the common good. This is not a school, or park, or needed highway--but an obvious usurpation of American citizens' private property rights for the benefit of a Canadian company. Building this pipeline would simply continue our reliance on heavily polluting fossil fuels instead of developing cleaner alternative energy sources. Any benefit you believe the state of Illinois would enjoy in the short term would be undoubtedly lost in the long term. This is our state and we all have to live here--including you and your families. I urge you to do the right thing and reject the petition of Enbridge, Inc.
